Faith Made Simple
What's up, guys? This is Jeromiah from Born to Win Ministries, and today we're diving into a powerful, yet often overlooked truth: Faith is Simple.
While this message comes from a video I shot a while back, the Word of God has no expiration date on revelation. So, I invite you to do what we always do: grab a Bible, find a way to take notes, open your heart, and remember that God wants to speak to you through every message based on His Word.
Simplicity: God's Preferred Way
We’re talking about simplicity and the power it holds, because it is actually God's preferred way of living. Consider the Apostle Paul's words to the Corinthian church in 2 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV): "But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ."
Paul's concern was that in their pursuit of being a "good church," they would lose their devotion to simply being the beloved of Christ by leaving the simplicity that is in Him. He worried they'd be tricked by people bringing in extravagant shows or 'new' revelations—things that pull us away from Christ’s simplicity.
I believe God wants us to talk about keeping things simple so we can see the extraordinary.
Miracles Come from Simple Commands
Think about any major miracle in the Bible. Go back and read it—every single one came from a simple command from God.
Samson: His strength and success were tied to the simple Nazarite vow: "Don't ever cut his hair. Don't ever let him have wine," etc. He was mighty until he no longer followed that simple command.
Naaman the Leper: The leader of the Syrian army, afflicted with leprosy, was told by the prophet Elisha to, "Go dip in the Jordan seven times and you'll be healed." Naaman was offended by how simple the word from God was. He wanted a more complicated, more extravagant solution. But when he finally took the command and dipped seven times, he was instantly clean. His miracle was delayed only when he made things complicated!
The Ten Lepers: When they cried out to Jesus, "Master, heal us," His simple command was, "Go show yourselves to the priest." They knew they could only show themselves to the priest if they were clean. They didn't stop for a four-day prayer and fasting session; the Word says, "And as they went, they were cleansed." (Luke 17:14)
The commands God gives, no matter how small or big the decision, will always be simple. They are never complicated or convoluted. And if you follow them, they will always yield great, miraculous results.
My Simple Step of Obedience
When my wife and I first moved to Texas, we were following God's simple instruction: "Move to Texas. Go serve your church." We burned through our money quickly, and I was frantically seeking direction, applying everywhere, going to interviews—it was a whole complicated mess.
One morning in the hotel, I cried out, "God, something is too hard about this. I need your help. Tell me what to do."
Immediately, the Holy Spirit said, "I want you to apply at this office supply store. Put your resume in." A simple command. I did it, and then I sat back, waiting on the Holy Spirit. The simplest way to keep things simple is to wait for the Holy Ghost and wait until He says something.
Then, He said, "Go down to the office supply superstore that you just applied at and go talk to them in person."
Every part of my rational brain screamed, "Don't do this! This is crazy!" But I knew the command was simple. I had applied online only fifteen minutes prior—no rational person does that! But in that simple step of obedience, I went. The manager loved my "determination," pulled up my freshly submitted application, and interviewed me right then. Shortly after, she called back and offered me the job!
That's the favor of God! It was a simple thing. Simplicity will keep you from wasting time; it makes you precise. Precision comes when things are simple, not complicated.
You Are Not an Orphan
God is your Father. You do not have to think for yourself, fend for yourself, or fight for yourself. God has signed up, lock, stock, and barrel, to do that on your behalf so you can walk in victory.
Simplicity is key because God wants to take you to your ultimate destination—from faith to faith, and from glory to glory. There will be people waiting for you at your next level that only you can reach. God is strategic!
Three Ways to Simplify Your Life
Here are three things you can do right now to simplify things in your life:
Ask the Holy Spirit for his help on everything you're doing. He will help you, even with the small things! Get the Holy Spirit in on every detail of your life.
Remember that God’s Word is unbreakable, unalterable, and unchangeable. You can have complete confidence that no matter what changes in the world, the Word will stay the same and give you the same miraculous results it gave those you read about in the Bible.
Don't worry about what people think when it comes to what God tells you to do. God's command will be simple, it will bear fruit, and you must be obedient. Do not let people talk you out of listening to the Lord and obeying Him.
Faith is simple. God doesn't expect you to have a PhD or a master’s degree in “Faithology” to be a successful believer. I pray this blessed you.
Confessions of Faith
My life is led by the simple, clear voice of the Holy Spirit.
I trust the Word of God completely, knowing it is unbreakable and always yields miraculous results.
I reject complication and choose simplicity, which leads to precision and effectiveness in my life.
God is my Father, and I do not have to fend for myself; He guides me to victory.
I am obedient to God's simple commands, and as I go, I receive my breakthrough and healing.
I am being led from faith to faith and from glory to glory.
